RAD and Huawei Announce DSL Product Interoperability
LA-110 Diversifies SME Applications by Offering Ethernet Connectivity.
November 11, 2003: RAD Data Communications has announced that its LA-110 Integrated Access Device (IAD) has been certified to be fully interoperable with DSLAMs manufactured by Huawei Technologies. The certification follows extensive interoperability tests between the LA-110 and Huawei’s SmartAX MA5100 DSLAM performed at Huawei’s headquarters in Shenzhen, China.
The LA-110 is a dedicated ATM IAD that enables service providers to offer voice, LAN and data services to small and medium-sized businesses over a single access line. It maximizes the utilization of the existing DSLAM/ATM infrastructure. To support high data rates over the Local Loop, the LA-110 uplink supports ADSL or SHDSL.
A Multiport IAD with Diversified Service Options
This certification opens the door to additional cooperation between our two companies,” stated Jeremy Zimman, Director of Operations in Greater China at RAD Data Communications. “The LA-110 is a high end IAD that supports an E1 or serial data port in addition to an Ethernet port, and Huawei was impressed by this multiservice capability,” Zimman reported “The LA-110 enables customers of Huawei’s DSLAM to provide a diversified service offering targeting the needs of business customers for high bandwidth symmetrical service who need to run multiple services from a single CPE/CLE device,” he continued. “Carriers using such a multiservice IAD can therefore differentiate their service from those of competing carriers using more common IADs that have only one single ingress port supporting a single service.”
On the user side, the LA-110 supports one 10/100BaseT LAN port and an optional data port, as well as four analog or four ISDN S0 voice channels, or one sub-E1 port. The product supports ATM CoS to support high Quality of Service (QoS) leased line services over the ATM network, as well as Frame Relay services for corporate applications, using Emulated Loop Control Protocol (ELCP) signaling for both POTS and ISDN voice over ATM. “This provides for seamless interoperability between the LA-110 and equipment from leading voice gateway vendors,” Zimman added. “We at RAD are proud and pleased to be able to add Huawei to the extensive list of manufacturers whose products are interoperable with the LA-110.”
