The AMC-101 can also perform re-timed conversion. A single AMC converter is used to connect two devices operating with dissimilar fibre or electrical interfaces. A pair of converters can be used to connect two devices that have the same interfaces but are connected over different media. Alternatively, a single or series of AMC devices can be installed on a line as repeaters for very long range over fibre. Ideal ATM or SDH/SONET repeatersAMC-101 makes an ideal carrier media converter and ATM or SDH/SONET repeater. It allows carriers to connect ATM switches with fibre optic interfaces to SDH/SONET transport systems with electrical interfaces. The re-timing functionality of the AMC-101 offers a cost-effective means of running jitter-free ATM or SDH/SONET services (155 Mbps) over long fibre optic links. The SF1, SF2 and SF3 modules for the AMC-101 allow it to operate over single strand fibre optic cables. SF1 and SF2 modules use WDM technology. SF3 uses a unique transmission method that transmits and receives through the same module. This facilitates installation and eases logistics by enabling carriers to stock one type of module.
