The ASM-11 is an asynchronous short range modem operating full or half duplex over twisted pair, unconditioned lines in point-to-point or point-to-multipoint applications. It operates at eight selectable data rates up to 19.2 kbps with a range of 8 km (5 miles) at maximum rate.Use of conditional diphase modulation (EUROCOM Std. D1) provides immunity to background noise, eliminates normal line distortion and enables efficient transmission over twisted pairs. The ASM-11 is compatible with the ASM-10/8 and the SRM-8 modems operating in async mode. It is also fully compatible with the CMN-C11 card for the CMN-16 nest.For multipoint applications or for transfer of a control signal, the carrier may be continuous or controlled.The ASM-11 features diagnostic capabilities complying with the V.54 standard to perform local analog and remote digital loopbacks.The modem has an RS-232-C/V.24 interface and is packaged as a compact desktop unit with a 25-pin D-type female connector. Line protection circuits guard against lightning and power surges.
