The ASMi-50 2/4-wire modem extends the data transmission range by using multirate single pair digital subscriber line (MSDSL) technology. This modem provides an extended range of up to 8.2 km (5.1 miles) over 24 AWG line. It operates over 2-wire or 4-wire interfaces (user-selectable).The product supports 15 different data rates from 64 kbps up to 1,152 kbps. A special ordering option is available for cases where the modem is used in large SDH applications. This option offers five different rates to overcome the jitter and wander introduced by the SDH network. When used in tail-end applications, the central ASMi-50 automatically detects the external clock rate and is locked accordingly. It also updates the remote unit clock rate via the management channel. This enables both units to follow the network clock. An out-of-band management channel allows the user to monitor and control the remote unit even while the data link is out of sync. Real-time management alarms reflect the actual status of both local and remote units and of the connecting link.Several interface options are available: V.24/RS-232 (64 and 128 kbps only), V.35, X.21, RS-530, V.36/RS-449, built-in Ethernet bridge with VLAN support, built-in router and G.703 codirectional (64 kbps). The ASMi-50 is available as a standalone master unit with front panel LCD or as a slave with a blank panel and portable control unit (PCU) to prevent unauthorized operation. Card versions are available for the ASM-MN-214 and LRS-24 19" racks. The LRS-24 enables SNMP management on the internal ASMi-50 card and on the remote unit. A dual modem card for the LRS-24 increases density and reduces the price per port. |
