The FLM-3 time division multiplexer enables up to 48 terminals to be concentrated onto a dual fibre optic cable, in point-to-point or ring applications. A built-in modem drives the high speed multiplexed data over a fibre optic cable up to a distance of 4 km (2.5 miles).Multiplexing is performed by high rate oversampling of all subchannels and interleaving the samples into a frame. The FLM-3 then transmits the frame onto the main channel. At the other end, the samples are recombined to form the original bits. The high sampling rate enables transmission of async data and control signals at low distortion and without delay.Local and remote digital loopback capabilities, provided via front panel switches and LEDs, enable diagnostics. Indicators on the front panel display Power, Test, Local Sync Loss and Remote Sync Loss. The FLM-3 has four 50-pin Telco connectors located on the rear panel, each supporting 12 channels. The FLM-3 is 1U high and is mountable in a 19" rack.
