The M-TFC miniature Token Ring fibre optic converter provides electrical-to-optical conversion for standard Token Ring adapter cards or a PCMCIA adapter. Transmission distance can be up to 3,000 meters (9,840 feet). The M-TFC is used to connect workstations to the Token Ring in applications that dictate the use of fibre optic cabling.The M-TFC converts the IEEE 802.5 electrical signal into an optical signal. Insert/bypass commands originating at the Token Ring adapter card in the form of "phantom" current are carried through the fibre using special signaling.Diagnostic LEDs provide indication of Power On and Fault when signal loss is detected.The M-TFC is externally powered from a regulated 5 VDC power source, which is available from the keyboard connector of a PC or laptop computer.Connection to the Token Ring adapter is via a DB-9 connector.
