The STM-2 miniature statistical multiplexer combines two asynchronous channels at data rates of 300 bps to 19.2 kbps, onto a single synchronous composite link. The composite link operates at speeds up to 19.2 kbps.Each subchannel can be used as a command port in order to configure the entire system or to perform diagnostic tests. Password-secured access prevents unauthorized changing of the configuration.The STM-2 features independent hard or soft flow control for each subchannel. Error-free end-to-end performance is provided by powerful error detection and automatic retransmission. Diagnostic capabilities enable local and remote loopbacks on the subchannels or the composite link, as well as V.54 loop control of the modems on the composite link. The STM-2 features permanent storage of the programmed configuration, using a non-volatile RAM. Downline loading of parameters is performed by a software command. The STM-2 is available in a miniature case with a 25-pin D-type connector for the link and two RJ-45 connectors for the DTEs. It operates from an external power source.
