The STM-8, STM-16HS, STM-24, and STM-24HS statistical multiplexers combine eight, 16 or 24 asynchronous channels, respectively, onto a single synchronous composite link at data rates of 75 bps to 19.2 kbps. The STM-16HS and STM-24HS models support link data rates up to 64 kbps on a V.24/RS-232, V.35, X.21 or RS-530 interface. Each subchannel can be used as a command port to configure the entire system or to perform diagnostic tests. Password-secured access prevents unauthorized changing of the configuration.RAD's STMs feature independent hard or soft flow control for each subchannel. Several characters for X-ON and X-OFF are provided, enabling compatibility with most applications. Error-free end-to-end performance is provided by powerful error detection and automatic retransmission.Diagnostic capabilities enable local and remote loopbacks on the subchannels or the composite link, as well as V.54 loop control of the modems on the composite link.RAD's STMs feature permanent storage of the programmed configuration, using a non-volatile RAM. Downline loading of parameters is performed by software command. The STM devices can be used as port expanders for RAD's APS and SPS packet switching products.Subchannel connections are made via RJ-45 connectors located on the front panel.
