The STM-4 statistical multiplexer combines four asynchronous channels at data rates of 300 bps to 19.2 kbps, onto a single synchronous composite link, which operates at speeds up to 19.2 kbps. Each subchannel can be used as a command port to configure the entire system or to perform diagnostic tests. The STM-4 features independent hard or soft flow control for each subchannel. Several characters for X-ON and X-OFF enable compatibility with most applications. Error-free, end-to-end performance is provided by powerful error detection and automatic retransmission. Diagnostic capabilities enable local and remote loopbacks on the subchannels or the composite link, as well as V.54 loop control of the modems on the composite link. The STM-4 features permanent storage of the programmed configuration. Parameter downline loading is performed by a software command. The STM-4 is available in three models: - miniature, in plastic enclosure - standalone metal enclosure, 1U high- card for 19" rack mount cage for 14 cards The miniature unit comes with 25-pin connectors. The standalone unit has special hardware for mounting in a 19" rack. It has four RJ-45 connectors located on the front panel.
