Product SummaryRAD's UCI is a universal interface converter that links any two data communications products. It is unique in its ability to operate as an interface converter, modem eliminator or elastic buffer. Benefits• Enables straightforward communication between different products with different DTE interfaces, or different clocked DCEs Further Product InformationMultifunction universal interface converterThe UCI is a universal interface converter that links any two data communications products. It is unique in its ability to operate as an interface converter, modem eliminator or elastic buffer. The UCI can be manually selected to operate in one of three modes: 1. Interface converterEnables the connection of a DTE to a DCE with different interfaces. 2. Modem eliminatorEliminates the need for two synchronous modems and enables direct connection of two DTEs that have similar or different interfaces. The UCI provides clocks and performs control signal handshaking, emulating modem operation to the two DTEs. 3. Elastic bufferEnables the connection of two independently clocked DCEs. The UCI provides bidirectional buffering of data, preventing loss of data that would otherwise occur due to the difference in clock phases. The two DCEs can have similar or different interfaces. The UCI operates at data rates up to 2.048 Mbps using an external clock, or up to 512 kbps with an internal clock. The UCI/HS model supports data rates up to 2.048 Mbps using the internal or external clock. The two UCI interfaces are provided via field-replaceable modules. Each interface module (except G.703) features a DTE/DCE selection switch. This enhances the universality of the UCI, allowing operation in various applications without requiring a cross cable. The available interface modules are V.24/RS-232, V.35, V.36/RS-449, X.21, G.703 codirectional (64 kbps), G.703 at 1.544 Mbps (unframed) and G.703 at 2.048 Mbps (unframed). Interface modules can be mixed, allowing any combination of interfaces. Elastic buffer
