The Compressed Voice System (CVS) is a highdensity voice compression system designed to optimize bandwidth in diverse applications and end-user environments. CVS uses powerful voice processing algorithms to compress a full E1/T1 down to 128 kbps and to compress 16 full E1/T1 lines (480/384 voice channels) over a single E1/T1 circuit. CVS enables carriers to provide high quality voice services at a small initial investment and low operating costs. CVS is also ideal in multi-location enterprise networks, remote call centers and other voice trunking applications. It reduces transmission costs significantly and improves utilization of expensive satellite, leased line and IP links. Vmux-2100 compresses voice channels into IP bundles that are routed to remote locations over the IP infrastructure in a hub-and-spoke, fullmesh, or partial-mesh topology. RAD's CVS solution consists of a number of products. RAD's Vmux-2100 and Vmux-110 offer the highest density and compression ratios and the most advanced features and algorithms. The Megaplex complements the Vmux in applications requiring analog voice ports. The Kilomux and MAXcess product lines include CVS capabilities but are optimized for voice and data integration. The Megaplex-2100H is a Frame Relay/TDM/IP access multiplexer that supports both traditional TDM interfaces as well as H.323 VoIP and FRF.11 VoFR.

Advanced CVS features offered by the Vmux

16:1 compression - Industry-standard technologies such as G.723.1, G.729A and G.711 compression algorithms, voice activity detection, silence suppression and comfort noise generation combined with RAD's unique TDMoIP aggregation and multiplexing protocol that provides user configurable frame size and packetizing intervals achieves up to 60% better bandwidth utilization than VoIP. Super Tandem - Prevents repeated compression and decompression of calls connected via multiple Vmux units. Bandwidth management control - Prevents serious voice quality degradation when link is congested. Bandwidth on Demand - Efficient utilization of the link by statistically multiplexing voice, HDLCbased signaling and LAN data onto TDM links with voice and signaling getting priority over LAN. MPLS - Multiplexing format that can be used in place of TDMoIP to further save bandwidth on non-IP networks.

Typical CVS Applications

Point-to-point over leased lines, satellite, IP or MPLS networks - RAD's Vmux-2100 is a compact product that is simple to deploy and is ideal for international and domestic toll-bypass. Voice trunking over IP in an any-to-any point application - RAD's Vmux extends voice circuits (including signaling) transparently over IP networks and therefore eliminates the need for expensive E1/T1 voice circuits. Channelized E1/T1 in a point-to-multipoint application - Vmux-2100 at the central site compresses E1/T1 voice trunks into fractional E1/T1 links for distribution to remote locations over a TDM network. Vmux-2100 integrates Ethernet traffic over those same E1/T1 links to further reduce network costs. Remote call center - Vmux-2100 compresses voice trunks and routes them over TDM facilities with IP backup, or vice versa, balancing the load between links. RAD's Megaplex-2100 can act as a channel bank at the remote call centers to convert E1/T1 circuits to analog voice for direct connection to telephones. Disaster Recovery - RAD's Vmux-2100 is ideal for voice trunking to mobile centers because it is compact, simple to deploy and provides transparent voice and data facilities. Its 16:1 compression and high tolerance to packet loss, latency and jitter make it an ideal solution for mobile contact centers that are accessible over satellite or IP VPNs (e.g., cable modems).
