RIC-622GE

Product Summary

RAD's RIC-622E Gigabit Ethernet over STM-4/OC-12 network termination unit transports Gigabit Ethernet traffic over STM-4/OC-12c uplinks, providing service providers and ISPs a migration path for connecting future-ready IP devices with Gigabit interfaces into existing SDH/SONET networks at 622 Mbps access rates. Typical applications include IP DSLAM backhaul, inter-POP connectivity or high bandwidth private line services. Using VLAN tagging and stacking, Ethernet traffic can be transported transparently, keeping user VLAN settings intact. The RIC-622GE Gigabit Ethernet over STM-4/OC-12 NTU is part of RAD's unique EtherAccess® suite of Ethernet products. These products enable end-to-end Quality of Service over low and high speed SDH/SONET and PDH circuits from fractional and full E1/T1, E3/T3 and STM-1/OC-3 circuits to Gigabit Ethernet.

Benefits

• Cost-effective bridging of Gigabit Ethernet traffic• Class of Service support for service differentiation• Enables implementation of future-ready IP access equipment

Further Product Information

The RIC-622GE is a network termination unit (NTU) providing simple, efficient and cost-effective bridging of Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) traffic over an STM-4/OC-12c uplink. It offers a migration path for connecting future-ready IP devices with Gigabit interfaces into the existing SDH/SONET network at 622 Mbps access rates. Typical applications include IP DSLAM backhaul, inter-POP connectivity or high bandwidth private line services.

Ethernet mapping and service prioritization

The device maps Ethernet frames into four fixed priority egress queues on the network port based on VLAN priority tagging (802.1p). This enables prioritizing between various user applications. Using VLAN tagging and stacking, Ethernet traffic can be transported transparently, keeping user VLAN settings intact. A table containing 64,000 MAC entries ensures that a large number of users can be connected over the device. Redundant hot-swappable power supplies provide carrier-class reliability.

Advanced management tools

RADview-Lite, RAD's Web-based configuration and diagnostics tool, provides SNMP fault management, including SNMP traps, status polling, and TFTP-based software and configuration download. Remote element management is available either through the ConfiguRAD Web-based application or Telnet. The RIC-622GE can be managed in-band, either from the Gigabit Ethernet port, or remotely through an SDH/SONET uplink. The device can also be managed out-of-band via a Fast Ethernet port or the craft port. Management traffic and user Ethernet traffic are transported together on the same Ethernet flow, securely separated by different VLANs. The device collects statistics at the Ethernet physical layer and the STM-4/OC-12c interface frame counters. RIC-622GE is equipped with a single 1000BaseSX/LX optical or 1000BaseTX electrical Gigabit Ethernet interface. The RIC-622GE SDH/SONET network termination unit has a single STM-4/OC-12c uplink. Single mode and multimode optical interface options are available. The RIC-622GE is a 1U-high, 19-inch wide box with a rack-mount option. It is available with two hot-swappable AC or DC power supplies.
