ASMi-54

Product Summary

RAD's ASMi-54 G.SHDSL.bis modem employs next-generation SHDSL technology and multi-pair bonding to offer mid-band Ethernet connectivity, providing up to 22.8 Mbps of bandwidth on 8-wire at a range up to 2.9 km (1.825 miles). The ASMi-54 G.SHDSL.bis modem is a cost-effective, point-to-point solution for the growing bandwidth needs of enterprises, campuses, corporations, and utility and transportation companies. Operating over 2-wire, 4-wire or 8-wire, the ASMi-54 supports four 10/100BaseT Ethernet ports with an integrated switch.

Benefits

• Reliable performance over poor quality or noisy lines• Fast Ethernet interface• Supports service provider QoS• Bridges the Ethernet over copper bandwidth gap between E1, T1 and E3, T3

Further Product Information

The ASMi-54 G.SHDSL.bis modem is a cost-effective, dedicated managed device for offering mid-band Ethernet connectivity based on multi-pair bonding technology. Using TC-PAM 16 or TC-PAM 32 line coding SHDSL.bis technology, the ASMi-54 G.SHDSL.bis modem can operate in full duplex mode over 2-wire, 4-wire or 8-wire lines, achieving variable data rates up to 5.7 Mbps over 2-wire, 11.4 Mbps over 4-wire, and up to 22.8 Mbps over 8-wire.

Point-to-point Ethernet extension

The ASMi-54 G.SHDSL.bis modem supports point-to-point Ethernet connection of up to 22.8Mbps over 8 wires (4 pairs) using bonding of multiple copper pairs. Multi-pair bonding ensures that a failure or addition of a link does not drop the traffic being transmitted over the other wires in the group nor is the capacity of the group decreased when a new link is added at a lower rate. Monitoring, control and diagnostics of local and remote units are available via a supervisory port.

Four 10/100BaseT ports

The unit supports up to four 10/100BaseT ports with half/full-duplex auto-negotiation and flow control. Fault propagation enables the unit to shut down the Ethernet user port when an SHDSL line failure is detected. For LAN-to-LAN connectivity, the modem supports a built-in 10/100BaseT switch and VLAN transparent support.

QoS support

The ASMi-54 G.SHDSL.bis modem supports both Quality of Service (QoS) priority queues according to 802.1p and IP Precedence, enabling users to define different levels of QoS according to the application requirements. The ASMi-54 G.SHDSL.bis modem can be ordered with a plastic box (2W, 4W) or a metal enclosure (8W). The management connection to the standalone unit is via: • Virtual terminal, in-band and out-of-band Ethernet port • Local terminal, Telnet server, SNMP, Web server (ConfiguRAD) • Dedicated VLAN for management.
