LA-210

Product Summary

RAD's LA-210 EFM (Ethernet in the First Mile) DSL network termination unit offers Ethernet access rates of up to 22 Mbps over bonded SHDSL.bis copper lines. As part of RAD's EtherAccess® portfolio, it features Carrier Ethernet attributes, including Ethernet OAM for proactive SLA monitoring, quality-of-service (QoS) per Ethernet flow and advanced traffic management capabilities - all starting at the service hand-off points. The LA-210 EFM DSL network termination unit is certified by the Metro Ethernet Forum to deliver Ethernet private Line (EPL) and Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL) services per MEF-9 and MEF-14 specifications.

Benefits

• Fills the bandwidth gap between SHDSL and high-speed fibre• Delivers new Carrier Ethernet services over widespread DSL infrastructure• Enables differentiated services with enhanced QoS mechanism• Supports SLA enforcement with performance monitoring and end-to-end control• Reduces operating expenses with advanced monitoring and diagnostic tools

Further Product Information

The LA-210 EFM DSL network termination unit extends the service provider's reach over DSL infrastructure, from the customer premises to the local DSLAM. This allows service providers to take advantage of local-loop unbundling (LLU) processes and widespread ATM and IP DSLAM deployment, using wholesale DSL services as the access technology for delivering mid-band Ethernet to customers where fibre is not present.

Intelligent demarcation for carrier services

The LA-210 EFM DSL NTU supports inter-office LAN connectivity and dedicated broadband access. In addition, it delivers Carrier Ethernet services, such as EPL, EVPL and virtual private networks (VPNs) with multiple point-to-point EVCs. The LA-210's smart Ethernet demarcation capabilities enable carrier-grade management of differentiated services and SLA performance guarantees, with enhanced QoS and automated, proactive monitoring over the entire service path. Offering maximum flexibility, it can operate as a VLAN-unaware bridge or in VLAN-aware mode with VLAN tagging and VLAN stacking (Q-in-Q) attributes.

QoS differentiation

Different services are remotely provisioned to the customer, assigned different bandwidth rates and traffic prioritization schemes to meet specific application requirements. User traffic can be classified according to ingress port number, VLAN ID, VLAN priority (802.1P), IP precedence, or DSCP. Each flow (EVC) can be dedicated to a single service or have up to eight classes of service (CoS) mapped to it. The LA-210 also features traffic marking and rate limitation functionality with a two-rate-three-color mechanism and according to pre-defined CIR/CBS and EIR/EBS bandwidth profiles. It allows higher priority to be allocated to premium services during periods of congestion using configurable SP or WFQ queuing.

Ethernet OAM

The LA-210 enables Ethernet service providers to proactively monitor and manage their service, to minimizing their operational expenses and ensure that the customer receives the service that have been contracted. The LA-210 EFM DSL NTU provides two types of Ethernet OAM: Ethernet link OAM, based on IEEE 802.3-2005 (formerly 802.3ah), is applied to a single link between a customer location and a network. It supports link monitoring and remote fault indication, including remote loopback and dying gasp. Ethernet service OAM, based on IEEE 802.1ag and ITU-T Y.1731, monitors an Ethernet service over any path, whether a single link or end-to-end. Ethernet service OAM supports connectivity checks, loopback and link trace testing, as well as performance monitoring, including Frame Delay, Delay Variation and Frame Loss.

SNMP Management and security

The LA-210 features flexible management capabilities, including local management via an ASCII terminal (RS-232). In addition, remote management can be performed either inband or out-of-band, using the network or user ports, while maintaining separation between management and user traffic via the use of VLANs. Advanced FCAPS (Fault, Configuration, Accounting, Performance, Security) and diagnostic tools are provided by RADview-EMS, RAD's carrier-class element management system, via an SNMP-based GUI. The LA-210 also supports a variety of configuration access channels, including CLI over Telnet, SNMP, Web server, and TFTP. Incorporated security features include Secure Shell (SSH), Web-based Secure Socket Layer (SSL), SNMPv3, and RADIUS, as well as management access control list (ACL).
