FibroLAN MetroStar System

This Carrier Class 19” Rack-Mountable platform is a modular multiple-channel 10/100/155/1000Mbps) Media Converter providing up to 48 conversion channels, housed in a 3U chassis, yielding an unprecedented density factor of 16/U. It features altogether 16 slots: 3 for power supplies, 1 for the management module and 12 for conversion modules (up to 4 user interfaces each). All modules, controls, connectors and indicators are located on the front panel for easy and space saving installation (including in dual back-to-back built cabinets). Its lightweight allows installation by a single technician. The MetroStar comes equipped with dual load sharing power supplies while an additional slot allows the insertion of a third redundant power supply, increasing MTBF. All modules are hot swappable. Even the cooling fans, integrated in the modular PS rather than fixed in the chassis, are hot swappable. All these result in record high MTBF and virtually zero MTTR. Most of the modules are equipped with FibroLAN’s MA™ technology, which allows low cost management of the link partners. SNMP management is provided either by a single management module or by a combination of Master and Slave modules which allow the stacking of up to 8 devices, allowing full management of hundreds of users by a single SNMP agent. The optional cable organizer facilitates neat and safe deployment even in the densest configurations.

MCM100-0X :Single and Dual channel modules 100Base-TX to 100Base-FX Converter Modules

This module provides one or two direct and independent 100Base-TX to 100Base-FX conversion channels. As a layer 1.5 converter it is independent from frame size. It is transparent to duplex mode but performs FDX Advertising (switch selectable) to force duplex mode on its link partner. The module is offered in a large variety of optical interfaces, both dual and single fiber strand, allowing the extension of the network up to 150km. Fault Propagation from the F/O port to the TP port allows network redundancy (provided that the switch/router to which it is connected is properly set to activate an alternate path). The TEST switch disables this function when FP is not implemented in the network and for diagnostics purposes. It’s RJ-45 port is Auto-Cross compliant, making installation trouble free. Like other MetroStar modules, the MCM is fully SNMP managed. The embedded MA chip allows full management of remote (MA enabled) devices eliminating the need of costly SNMP processors and IP addresses in such devices. All MetroStar modules are hot swappable and equipped with two self-clinching screws for easy and safe module insertion and removal. A special LED indicates that the module is well inserted in its slot and “alive” even before links are connected.

MCM110-0X : Single and Dual channel modules 10/100Base-TX to 100Base-FX modules

This module provides one or two buffered and independent 10/100Base-TX to 100Base-FX conversion channels. Due to it’s buffering feature (BMD) different speeds or duplex modes can be used on its ports consequently reaching full distances even when interconnecting HDX devices. While its TP port is auto-negotiating, other modes can be forced to successfully interconnect with any type of device. ACM-110-1X :Aggregating Converter Modules

This module takes 2 or 4 100Base-FX inputs from remote users and aggregates them into a single RJ-45 port which in turn connects to a switch. Designed to optimize FTTH access nodes, it therefore reduces the total number of aggregation switch ports (by a factor of 2 to 4) saving on costs, space and power consumption. As even the highest density stackable switches available today seldom exceed 200 ports, using a MetroStar loaded with ACM modules becomes then the only feasible way to accommodate all user fibers accessing such node. While its TP port is auto-negotiating, other modes can be forced (via management) to successfully interconnect with any type of device. The module’s capability to handle extremely large frames (up to 1916 bytes) eliminates possible interoperability problems with other vendors’ switches. Due to it’s most flexible software and firmware based design two additional network architectures can be implemented with this module: Redundant fiber link and fiber-to-fiber network extension. Like other MetroStar modules, the ACM is fully SNMP managed.

MSM100U :Multi-Mode to Single-Mode Converter Modules

Most of the high speed networking devices (such as ATM or Fast-Ethernet switches) are available with only multi-mode fiber-optic ports. Other devices – when offered with Single-Mode fiber interfaces are very expensive and not flexible in use. These modules provide the network designer with a flexible, cost effective and trouble-free tool for network extension. It is an universal, protocol transparent device, converting digital signals ranging up to 155Mbps from multi-mode to single mode fibers and distances of up to 150km . Being transparent, their deployment is easy and does not require any settings or measurements. In addition to the basic m/m/f to s/m/f modules, s/m/f to s/m/f modules are available to be used as network extenders or wavelength converters. All MetroStar modules are hot swappable and equipped with two self-clinching screws for easy and safe module insertion and removal. A special LED indicates that the module is well inserted in its slot and “alive” even before links are connected.

GBE Converter Modules ( MCM1000T and MCM1000S)

This module provides conversion from a fiber-optic multimode GBE link (1000Base-SX) to a Single Mode Link (1000Base-LX) to allow extension of up to 80km. Unlike other products available in the market, the MCM1000S is based on a full digital technology: Signals from one F/O port are converted to digital electrical signals, fully retimed then converted again to F/O transmitted from the second port. This design provides a resilient and steady conversion and advanced control and diagnostic features. In addition it facilitates special applications like daisy-chaining, back-to-back and management. It is transparent to duplex mode. Fault Propagation from one F/O port to the second F/O port allows end-to-end link integrity verification. A Loop-Back function (separate for each port) simplifies troubleshooting of link problems. Each port provides separate Link and Activity indications for enhanced diagnostics. Like other MetroStar modules, the MCM is fully SNMP managed. All MetroStar modules are hot swappable and equipped with two self-clinching screws for easy and safe module insertion and removal. A special LED indicates that the module is well inserted in its slot and “alive” even before links are connected. The MCM1000-T modules provide a copper MM 850nm conversion to 1000LX SM 1310 and 1510nm for distances up to 80Km
